When I do talk to people about their diets, they always want to know what they can't have. We are a society obsessed with the forbidden. Fat Free, Sugar Free, Gluten Free, No Carbs, Grain Free, No Meat, No Dairy..... the list goes on and on and on. Whenever a client is trying to make a change, they want to know, "What do I have to cut out to get what I want?"
This never works. Here's the cycle- You start the first week cutting out _______. You throw it all out. (Or eat it all the night before you start your diet.) You try not to think about it. You manage the first week. You are so proud of yourself. Woohoo! Look at the scale! You start the second week. You can't help but think about _______. You try to stay strong. You can do this. Even though you really want ________. All you can think about is _______. You are dreaming about _________. Maybe you could just have a teeny bit of _______. Screw it! Suddenly you are shoving as much _________ into your mouth as possible and you can't figure out how in the hell this happened. Where is the willpower!? Oh well, better eat it all now and start again Monday!
If you are laughing now, you've been there. I have, too. We all have. Its the nature of the DIET. I still find myself falling into this trap. The minute I told the internet that I would post a picture in a 2 piece, I resolved to stop drinking beer. Read above to hear how that went. When I was preparing for my surgery, the doctor gave me a list of things to avoid for 2 weeks. They were very adamant about NO ENERGY DRINKS! (which makes me worry about those energy drinks). I haven't had anything like that since college. My last Monster was probably 8 years ago. Every time they told me that, I told them, "No problem. I don't drink those." Do you know what I wanted for those two weeks? What I craved? All of a sudden, I was dying for a Monster. All because it was on the naughty list.
